St. Hyacinth Basilica (Roman Catholic Church) 3636 W. Wolfram Street, Chicago, Illinois (773) 342-3636 is permitting companies to advertise their services on church property.  There is one ad bench on each side of the front entrance of the church advertising a company that builds porches.  Since the advertising is on church property it gives the appearance that the church endorses and supports the company advertising their services.  Think about it - everyone who goes to mass is exposed to this advertisement.  Is this the commercialization of religion?  Should a church be permitted to continue to be exempt from real estate taxes when it is using its property to advertise a company's services?  Are the parishioners who are making donations to the church supporting these companies who advertise on church property because their donations are for the upkeep of their church?  It is very bothersome to me and I wanted other people to think about it because when I enter a church I am there to worship my God and it just doesn't seem right for a company to put their sign on my place of worship.
